The Italian experience of health technology assessment have been developed only in recent years and there is no specific national agency for technology assessment, although many activities are still carried out by individual organizations, national, regional or local authorities, who face the need to decide whether or not to introduce new health technologies. In 2003, under a project funded by the Ministry of Health, was founded on the Italian Network for Health Technology Assessment (sihta - Società Italiana di Health Technology Assessment). The organizations participating in the Italian Network for Health Technology Assessment, after a consultation process that involved participants in the "1 ° Italian Forum for Health Technology Assessment" held in Trento 19 to 21 January 2006 by the Provincial Health Services of Trento, University of Trento and the Italian Network for Health Technology Assessment, agree on the following principles: 1. evaluation of health technologies must involve all stakeholders to health care 2. The health technology assessment should cover all the elements that contribute to health care; 3. The health technology assessment should cover all levels of management of health systems and structures that are part; 4. The health technology assessment should be an ongoing activity that must be conducted prior to their introduction and during the entire life cycle. 5. evaluation of health technologies is a necessity and an opportunity for the integrated governance of health systems and structures that are part; 6. The HTA is a multidisciplinary process that must take place in a manner consistent with other care processes and technical-administrative health systems and structures that are part of it.
