HTA+: Online Course for Health Technology Assessment +Ethics

Organisation:
HTAi and Radboud UMC
Subject:
Ethics
Course outline:

HTA+ proposes a new way of assessing healthcare technology. A way that determines and judges the consequences of a technology in close collaboration with stakeholders. It is a daring process of defining, acknowledging and reconciling different perspectives.

HTA+ does not focus on the technology itself, but on its use in daily practice. In this process, ideas can emerge to improve the technology. HTA+ not only assesses the impact of healthcare technology, but also has impact itself.

All things considered, HTA+ offers a deeper and broader role to technology assessment: from merely collecting data, to a versatile instrument which really contributes to a better incorporation of healthcare technology into daily practice

FOR WHOM THE HTA+ COURSE IS INTENDED?

The course is of interest to anyone who wishes to get more insight in the ethical questions and social impact which are associated with the development and use of novel medical technologies, and who wants to be able to identify such aspects, in order to improve their effectiveness in performing HTA.

The course is especially useful for professionals who work in the field of evaluating the introduction of new medical technologies, but also for students, graduates or postdocs who are already familiar with the basics of HTA, and want to broaden and deepen their competence in this area.

ARE THERE ANY PREREQUISITES FOR ADMISSION TO THE COURSE?

We expect that you have knowledge of the basics of HTA. Competence in the domain of ethics is not required, although it will be of help in understanding various elements of the course.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER SELECTION CRITERIA?

In order to guarantee a high level of supervision and coaching, the number of participants is limited. If the applications outnumber these, we will have to make a selection. The selection will be primarily based on the order of entries, but we also seek for a balanced distribution between countries and institutes. Also the backgrounds and aims of the participants will be taken in consideration.
